Las Vegas Raiders get the best news they could have asked for regarding star running back Ashton Jeanty
The Las Vegas Raiders shouldn’t be without Ashton Jeanty for too long now that recent reports have indicated he has only a sprained ankle.
Star running back Ashton Jeanty and the Las Vegas Raiders flooded NFL headlines on Sunday. According to several reports from reporters and Insiders at practice, Jeanty was helped off the field at practice.
On Sunday during practice, the Raiders were getting after it. Nearly every reporter in attendance reported that Jeanty collided with another player. On a play that saw Jeanty running a route, he dove for the pass, trying to catch the ball. Somehow, he and cornerback Darien Porter collided. Then, Jeanty lay on the ground for quite a second. From there, the team shut off the music playing at training camp.
Everyone went quiet. Players began to kneel and say a prayer over the second-year running back. The trainers came out and helped Jeanty off the field. Everyone was so silent and looked worried. They helped him off in a way that was more like carrying him, as he couldn’t put any weight on his right leg.
Adam Schefter also reported that the injury was believed to be a knee injury. Well, it wasn’t. Now we know the injury wasn’t to the knee. But this is good news. According to Schefter and other reports, it is now believed to be an ankle sprain.
What could the timeline look like for Ashton Jeanty’s ankle sprain?
Now, the severity of the ankle sprain is still undetermined. It could be a low ankle sprain or a high ankle sprain. It can take four to eight weeks for a running back to fully recover from a high ankle sprain. That’s the worst-case scenario for this type of injury. If that’s the case with Jeanty, we could be looking at him being out for maybe a few games to start the year. At worst, Jeanty could be out for the first six or seven games.
But this is much better news than what was originally reported. The Raiders just went from possibly not having Jeanty for the year to likely seeing him play this season. This is huge news, and we will update you as soon as we have more information.
