Steelers open the week with great news following the return of Pro Bowl defender to practice alongside highly anticipated rookie
The Pittsburgh Steelers are back on the grass Monday ahead of Thursday’s preseason finale, and the team had some great news on the injury front, which included the return of four key players and one for the first time all summer.
The Pittsburgh Steelers received a massive boost on the injury front Monday, as defensive back Jalen Ramsey was officially activated off the PUP list and returned to practice. Ramsey wasn’t the only Steelers player back on the field, either. Rookie offensive tackle Max Iheanachor, wide receiver DK Metcalf, and wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. all returned to practice as well, giving Pittsburgh a much-needed wave of reinforcements as the regular season approaches.

- 3 sacks
- 1 interception
Ramsey headlines the returns
Ramsey had been dealing with a lower-body injury throughout training camp and had yet to take part in team practices. He was frequently spotted working off to the side, stretching and running through sprints on his own. Now he appears locked and loaded, ready to go.
The truth is, Ramsey’s return is a huge asset for the Steelers defense. If you want to talk about Ramsey not being the lockdown corner he once was, that’s fine. But what he has become is a tone-setting, enforcing member of the Pittsburgh secondary. The Steelers missed that presence throughout training camp and in the preseason.
Iheanachor, Metcalf, and Pittman Jr. also return
Ramsey grabbed the headline, but the returns of Iheanachor, Metcalf, and Pittman Jr. are equally significant for a Steelers roster trying to gel before the regular season.
Iheanachor, the rookie offensive tackle who looked fantastic during the open practices in Latrobe, had been sidelined for roughly three weeks with an upper body injury. He hadn’t played in the preseason and had been absent from practice entirely during that stretch. Getting him back on the field gives Pittsburgh another look at a young player who flashed real potential early in camp.
Metcalf and Pittman Jr., the Steelers’ starting wide receiver duo, had been out since the Saturday Night Lights practice in Latrobe. Neither had practiced or played in the preseason since that session, making Monday’s return a welcome sight for a passing game that needs its top weapons working together with as much time as possible before the games count.
What it means for the Steelers
Four players returning to practice in one day is the kind of news that can shift the energy around a team at this stage of the offseason. Pittsburgh now has its top cornerback, its starting wide receivers, and a promising rookie tackle all back on the field at the same time.
The bottom line is the Steelers needed this. The preseason without Ramsey, Metcalf, and Pittman Jr. left the defense and offense both operating without key pieces. With the regular season closing in, getting all four players back gives Pittsburgh a chance to build the chemistry and cohesion it will need come September.
