The Oregon Ducks have been prominently featured all offseason as one of the favorites to win the 2026 national championship. Because of their gifted roster, I’ve backed them as my preseason pick to win the title.

Now, I have extra vindication for buying into the quality of this team.

Oregon’s 2026 roster is the most loaded it’s ever been

To win a national championship, your roster needs elite talent cultivated through years of recruiting and developing four-star and five-star athletes. To help quantify which teams have the best rosters, 247Sports produces its Team Talent Composite that ranks rosters by the most highly recruited athletes

In this year’s rankings, the Ducks have moved all the way up to No. 2 on the rankings for this season, right behind Georgia. That’s up from No. 5, passing teams that normally stick at the top like Alabama and Ohio State. This makes sense considering how effectively Oregon coach Dan Lanning has compiled elite five-star talent over the years. Some notable established starters who were highly touted five-stars include Dakorien Moore, Evan Stewart, and Dante Moore.

They additionally have talented former five-stars filling out depth, like Gatlin Bair, Jalen Lott, Na’eem Offord, and more.

While Oregon has been knocking on the door of possibly winning a national championship, 2026 is their best opportunity. The Ducks don’t just have the most four-star and five-star talent from multiple years of recruiting. They also have some of the top prospects in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Oregon also features A’Mauri Washington, Matayo Uiagalelei, Bear Alexander, Koi Perich, and Jamari Johnson, all of whom could get picked within the top 100 picks next year. A roster this loaded with draft-caliber talent, on top of a foundation of elite recruits, is a rare combination, and it speaks to what Lanning has built in Eugene.

The 247Sports composite confirms it. Georgia still holds the top spot, but Oregon sitting at No. 2 ahead of Alabama and Ohio State is a significant statement about where the program stands nationally. Lanning has closed the gap on the traditional blue bloods in terms of raw talent, and the talent is there to take the final step.

A roster this loaded significantly increases the Ducks’ chances of winning a national title. Oregon can finally get it done in 2026.
