Oregon vs Northwestern Final Score Predictions: Experts predict whether Dan Lanning or Chip Kelly gets the last laugh
Oregon is set to take on Northwestern, and a lot of people think the Wildcats will come out on top. What will be the final result?
The Oregon Ducks and Northwestern Wildcats enter Saturday’s matchup with very different expectations than they had at the beginning of the season.
Oregon was expected to compete for a College Football Playoff spot, but a disappointing season, quarterback Dante Moore’s season-ending injury, and offensive coaching changes have left the Ducks searching for answers. Northwestern, meanwhile, has emerged as one of the biggest surprises in college football, entering the matchup at 6-1 and looking to strengthen its postseason resume.
Can the Wildcats take advantage of Oregon’s struggles and leave Autzen Stadium with a statement victory? Or will the Ducks’ talent advantage be enough to get them back on track?
Here is how the A to Z Sports team sees Saturday’s game playing out.
A to Z Sports Score Predictions
Tyler Forness — A to Z Sports Florida
Prediction: Northwestern 24, Oregon 14
Going into the season, projecting the Wildcats to beat the Ducks would have been a shocker. On Halloween, it won’t be a trick, but rather a Wildcat treat.
What Chip Kelly has done with this offense and head coach David Braun overall has been very impressive. They aren’t just 6-1 overall this season, but rank seventh in adjusted EPA/play on offense. It’s been a wild turnaround, and even though the Ducks have a huge talent surplus, their coaching staff is not in a great place, and Dante Moore is out for the year. The Northwestern playoff push continues on after a big win Saturday.

Prediction: Northwestern 25, Oregon 20
The 2026 Oregon Ducks are a case study in why turnover at the coordinator positions is problematic. That, and why if you can go to the NFL and be a high first-rounder, you should. The loss of Dante Moore for the season underscores what has been a messy situation from start to finish on offense this season. Will Stein has the Wildcats thriving in Kentucky, and that loss is felt in a major way.
But the defense hasn’t been much better. Now, a Northwestern squad that is willing to run the ball at will is heading to Oregon, and I think they will challenge the physicality of the Ducks in a major way. Oregon doesn’t have the firepower to score, and it will be a massive win for Northwestern.
Craig Smith — A to Z Sports Miami
Prediction: Northwestern 23, Oregon 19
Boy, how the perception of this game has changed since Labor Day weekend.
Oregon’s playoff goose is cooked at 4-3 after losses to Oklahoma State, UCLA, and Illinois. Dante Moore is done for the season. Offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer was fired after the loss to the Illini. In other words, things are a mess, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.
This one stays close at Autzen Stadium, as the Ducks move the ball relatively well early on. But Northwestern, while allowing 364.6 yards per game, has been very good at keeping the point total lower, ranking 22nd nationally at 16.6 points per game.
The Wildcats force some early field goals, and their ground game, paced by Caleb Komolafe, takes over the second half as the Wildcats get out of town at 7-1 and firmly in the Big Ten and playoff races.
Justin Churchill — A to Z Sports Oklahoma
Prediction: Oregon 20, Northwestern 17
Oregon is favored in this matchup currently by a field goal. And I have them winning by just that. Northwestern is a good team, and their story is amazing. But I think Oregon’s overall talent and coaching advantage in this one is just too good. Northwestern does have a +9 turnover margin. They force them, and they don’t commit them. Oregon cannot say the same. They have also scored on 96% of their red zone opportunities this year, which is extremely good. So, I can see why that would be enticing. But this Oregon roster is just too talented to give up on yet.

Prediction: Oregon 21, Northwestern 20
Northwestern has earned plenty of respect with its performance this season, but I’m still leaning toward Oregon to find a way to win at home. The Ducks have endured a difficult stretch, and losing Dante Moore for the season makes an already challenging situation even more complicated. Still, the talent on this roster is difficult to overlook, particularly in a game that could come down to one or two critical possessions.
Northwestern’s ability to run the football and protect the ball makes the Wildcats a dangerous opponent, especially against an Oregon team that has struggled to find consistency. However, I expect the Ducks to make just enough plays offensively to survive a tight finish. Northwestern has a legitimate opportunity to pull off the upset, but I’m giving Oregon the narrow edge at Autzen Stadium.
Consensus: Can Northwestern Finish the Upset?
The A to Z Sports predictions lean heavily toward Northwestern, with four of the five analysts picking the Wildcats to win. The common theme is Oregon’s offensive instability following Dante Moore’s season-ending injury and the coaching changes that have contributed to an uneven campaign. Northwestern’s ability to run the football, limit opponents’ scoring, and capitalize on mistakes gives the Wildcats a path to a major road victory.
Justin Churchill and I are the exceptions, backing Oregon to lean on its roster talent and home-field advantage. Both expect a close game, and I am predicting a one-point Ducks victory.
Regardless of the final score, Northwestern has an opportunity to turn an impressive start into a season-defining result. Oregon, meanwhile, needs to show that its talent can overcome the problems that have derailed its season. If the Wildcats establish the run and force Oregon into uncomfortable passing situations, an upset in Eugene could be very much in play.
