When the Miami Dolphins‘ 53-man roster is being discussed, note how the qualifier is that this is the ‘initial’ group. It is going to change. And in the case of the 2026 Miami Dolphins, probably a lot.
Miami is seeking long-term building blocks. They’re hoping to uncover some gems. And digging for treasure like this can be an…extensive process. So with Miami’s initial 53-man roster now set, where should they start mining for another hit? Here are three position rooms in need of some immediate attention after cuts.

Safety
The Dolphins have just three safeties on the 53-man roster as of the cut down from 90 players. Dante Trader Jr., Zayne Anderson, and rookie Michael Taaffe are the only ones on the roster, although fellow rookie Kyle Louis is a player capable of playing some safety, too. It’s a collective group that doesn’t offer a lot of experience, either. Miami will need both for Jeff Hafley’s unit this season: more experience and more depth. I expect a move sooner rather than later.
Quarterback
The Dolphins already did the big thing here with the trade acquisition of Kyle McCord. McCord joins Malik Willis as the only quarterbacks on the roster though. Either former Dolphins quarterback from this summer, Mark Gronowski or Cam Miller, is probably better served as a practice squad talent. Are we really rolling with McCord and Willis as the only two signal callers on the team? If Miami is serious about their competition within the quarterback room, you’d love to see them bring someone else in — and not necessarily just a practice squad bone.
Defensive tackle
I think the defensive tackle group is generally fine long-term. But Kenneth Grant got dropped on injured reserve with a designation to return. That left the Dolphins with four interior defensive linemen on the initial 53-man roster: Zach Sieler, Jordan Phillips, Zeek Biggers, and Keith Cooper Jr. Are we rolling with that group for four weeks? Or however long it takes for Grant to return to action? I would certainly be looking if I were Jon-Eric Sullivan (I am not).
