What this means for the Eagles early in the season
The Commanders are already without offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, who could miss the entire season, and now they lose their starting corner on top of it. Washington continues to get hammered by the injury bug, and the season hasn’t even kicked off yet. Not a good start for them.
For the Eagles, this is obviously a favorable development heading into the opener. Losing your No. 1 cornerback before Week 1 is brutal, and it only makes Philadelphia’s job easier on the offensive side of the ball because it’s going to be harder to cover weapons like DeVonta Smith.
Look, you never want to celebrate another team’s injuries. But from a pure football standpoint, the Eagles should feel pretty good about how this matchup is shaping up. Washington is dealing with some serious roster attrition before a single snap of the regular season, and that’s a tough hole to climb out of in a competitive NFC East.
Right now, it looks like an uphill battle for Washington in Week 1.
