Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane is a playmaker. He’s capable of catching the edge of the defense, jolting a big run up the middle, taking a screen route to the house, or shaking a linebacker out of his jock.
The numbers back the eye-test. And while the numbers paint a favorable picture for Achane, he’s on the doorstep of a rare club. With just two receiving touchdowns this season, De’Von Achane will achieve a feat that only a few running backs have since the merger in 1970.

De’Von Achance currently has 13 receiving touchdowns through his first two seasons in the league. With two more, he’ll become just the seventh running back since the 1970 merger to log 15 receiving touchdowns in his first four seasons as an NFL player. He’d join the following NFL backs:
- Chuck Foreman, MIN (1973-1978) – 18
- Kareem Hunt, KC (2017-2020) – 16
- Austin Ekeler, LAC (2017-2020) – 16
- Christian McCaffrey (2017-2020) – 16
- Alvin Kamara, NO (2017-2020) – 16
- Joe Cribbs, BUF (1980-1983) – 15
Given the outlook of the Miami Dolphins’ roster outlook for the season ahead, it’s hard to imagine anything other than injury infringing upon Achane achieving this mark. And, given the success long-term of several of these names? It’s a great omen for Achane as an overall NFL player to be put in this stratosphere.
Among players from his own draft class in 2023, Achane may have the best chance to join the club. Falcons RB Bijan Robinson needs 7 receiving scores this season to reach 15. Detroit’s Jahmyr Gibbs has a better outlook — he needs 5 receiving touchdowns. Gibbs achieved that mark last season and appears primed for his biggest workload yet.
But neither have the inside track that Achane does. 2 receiving scores could be a single day at the office. So keep an eye on this storyline. It’s looming right around the corner.
