Ohio State football predicted to land another major recruiting target to add to impressive haul they’re building
Ohio State has picked up a key recruiting prediction to land a 2028 target, and it would add to the impressive haul Ryan Day’s coaching staff has built.
Ohio State opened the 2026 season with a blowout win over Ball State, and the Buckeyes made the most of the game on the recruiting trail as well. With football back in Columbus, Ohio State has the luxury of bringing recruits in for game day visits, and those trips can go a long way.
The Buckeyes are working on building what has a chance to be a special 2028 recruiting class, and a top tight end target left his visit sounding like a future Buckeye.
Luke Sohyda, a 3-star prospect from Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, was on hand for the season opener. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound tight end holds offers from Ohio State, Maryland, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia, among others. Ohio State tight ends coach Keenan Bailey is leading the charge on his recruitment.
Rivals expert predicts Sohyda to Ohio State
Coming away from the game, Rivals recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong predicted Sohyda will pick Ohio State and commit to the Buckeyes. Following the visit, Sohyda had some strong words about his relationship with the program.
“The opportunity to play for the Buckeyes is huge for me,” Sohyda stated via Rivals. “I text Coach Kee almost daily. Definitely seems like a place I can see myself ending up.”
That sounds like a player who very well could end up playing in Columbus, and it wouldn’t be a surprise. Ohio State has had a clear identity with its tight end recruiting as of late. The Buckeyes aren’t necessarily landing the top-rated guys at the position, but they’re landing players who they believe can come in, buy into the weight training program, and become good blockers and multi-dimensional tight ends.
Pittsburgh looms as biggest competition for this one against Ohio State
Ohio State believes Sohyda can be that kind of player. The Buckeyes’ biggest competitor at this point looks to be Pittsburgh from the ACC, which will receive a visit from the 3-star prospect this coming weekend.
The Buckeyes already have multiple 5-stars in the 2028 class with players like quarterback Christopher Vargas and wide receiver Jett Harrison. Landing Sohyda would fill a key need at tight end and add another piece to what has a chance to be a special recruiting haul.
Time will tell if Ohio State can close the deal here and lock down one of its only tight end targets in the 2028 class. The coming weeks could be telling, and Pittsburgh is set to make its latest pitch in a few days.
