‘I’m friends with the Manning family’ – Former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops predicts the winner of Texas vs Ohio State
The biggest game of the weekend will be played in Austin on Saturday night when Texas hosts Ohio State in a critical early season showdown.
It’s not often that you hear former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops say something nice about the Texas Longhorns.
Stoops, though, admitted this week that he’s not rooting against Texas quarterback Arch Manning, noting that he’s friends with some of the Manning family.
But that connection isn’t enough for Stoops to predict that Texas will beat the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday night in Austin.
“I’m going to take Ohio State,” said Stoops. “I just think they’re one of those teams that they don’t mind going to Texas and playing. Nothing against Texas — I’m a fan of what Arch Manning has done and is doing. I thought he got better throughout the year a year ago, and I think that’s going to make a big difference. And again, I’m friends with the Manning family. I’m never going to root against the young man.
“But I just believe Ohio State’s one of those teams that can go down there and win. And I think the way they’ve recruited — they also have an experienced quarterback coming back who was a highly recruited guy. Ryan Day’s done an excellent job as well. I just think they’re one of those teams that can go down there and win. … They don’t mind going anywhere. So I take Ohio State.”
I didn’t think Stoops would have it in him to pick Texas — even if he is close with some of the Manning family. Once a Sooner always a Sooner I guess.
Anyway, this is a true toss-up game. I could see it going either way. My only hope is that it’s a competitive game that comes down to the last play.
