Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Bobbly Slowik sits in a fascinating position. He was on Mike McDaniel’s staff last year. And now, this year, he sits on Jeff Hafley’s staff as the offensive coordinator.
With his new role, Slowik is going to have a chance to put his own imprint on this offense. But one of the biggest ways he’s hoping to do so doesn’t have anything to do with scheme. It has to do with a much simpler point of emphasis. And, hopefully, the 2026 Miami Dolphins can show that you can always find what you’re looking for once you change your mindset.

“I can tell you one thing I’m huge on, and that’s just beyond scheme in general. Style of play is a huge deal to me. And it’s a huge deal to Coach Hafley. I know he’s made that very clear to everybody, but like we want to play with high effort. We are going to play physical and we are going to make sure that at the end of every game, we’re held to a high standard in that regard. So like the scheme is the scheme, there’s going to be some different stuff, but the style of play to me is always going to be the starting point.”

The variation between McDaniel’s offense and Bobby Slowik’s offense will be fun to track through scheme. As has been noted many times, Slowik runs a scheme adjacent offense to the rest of the Shanahan disciples. But the point Slowik makes about play style is the living embodiment of that meme about “finding what you’re looking for”. If the emphasis falls on “style of play”, then we should expect the style of play to match what they preach. It mitigates some of the scheme emphasis, and shifts the focus into something more basic: the physical realm. Whether that actually works or not is for this group to go out and prove. And they’ll have their first chance to do exactly that on Sunday.
