‘They didn’t go home, man’—One Miami Dolphins position room gets tabbed for a breakout by a team captain
The Miami Dolphins defense looks to answer the call of opportunity and one captain thinks one group in particular will be ready to roll.
The Miami Dolphins’ defense has plenty of youth. It’s anchored by a pair of veterans — one of which was named an All-Pro in 2025. Linebacker Jordyn Brooks knows what it takes to be great in the NFL. And, as a team captain, he’s hoping to lead the charge for many of his teammates on that path.
But when asked on Thursday about teammates who took a step in the right direction this offseason, Brooks pointed to an entire position group. And a big part of the reason why he believes is because this particular group never went home and just kept working.

“I would say really our entire d-line. Zeek Biggers, Jordan Phillips, Zach (Sieler), obviously. All those guys, man, they really had a big jump in my opinion. Just how they’ve been approaching the game, especially those second-year guys that were all rookies last year. Man, they’ve been hungry all offseason. They didn’t go home, man. They’ve been up here in the entire offseason. So really seeing them kind of take that step forward, I think they’re having a big year this year.”

They say a linebacker’s best friend is a stout group of tackles in front of him. Strong interior play keeps linebackers clean. And clean linebackers means lots of room to run and hit and tackle. Brooks is obviously hoping for more opportunities to do that this season.
He seems to have some strong belief in the young group of defensive tackles that Miami’s roster boasts. We won’t see 2025 first-round draft choice Kenneth Grant out on the field on account of an injured reserve stint. But Jordan Phillips and Zeek Biggers are both Day 3 draft picks from 2025 that could jolt life into the roster build with strong seasons this year.
Brooks is buying.
That’s what this season is about at it’s core. Who is hungry enough to go above and beyond to seize the moment? I would say staying in South Florida all offseason to work at the facility on your craft is a great first step. And so would Brooks.
