Jeff Hafley’s past may offer the Miami Dolphins a few unique wrinkles for their Week 1 offensive game plan
Jeff Hafley may have some unique insight for the Miami Dolphins’ offensive game plan for Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley is a defensive-minded head coach. He’ll also be calling the plays for the defensive side of the ball this season. So, as you’d probably expect, his imprint on that game plan is massive.
But Hafley may have some unique insights to offer his offensive coordinator, Bobby Slowik, this week ahead of the team’s Week 1 matchup against the Raiders. Because amid all of the “new” and shuffling around the league, a few familiar faces from Hafley’s past have found their way to Sin City. And they’re in the starting lineup this Sunday to face the Dolphins’ offense.

Lord knows we’ve heard all about the importance of linebackers and their ability to play in space from Hafley this offseason. One of his hold linebackers from Green Bay? Quay Walker — who signed with the Raiders this offseason on a three-year, $40.5 million contract. You think Hafley knows a few things about Walker and his tendencies as a football player after coaching him the last two seasons in Green Bay? Whatever he knows, it’s probably safe to assume that Slowik has heard it this week, too.
But Walker isn’t the only former Hafley starter from the Packers playing against Miami this week. Cornerback Eric Stokes, a former first-round draft choice, played nearly 600 defensive snaps for Hafley back in 2024. Stokes then left in free agency and broke out this past year with the Raiders. They chose to run it back. But Hafley coached Stokes all year in 2024. He probably knows a few layers to his game, too.
It will ultimately be up to Bobby Slowik to make any intel that exists count. But I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to say Hafley has some greater than average insight for an offensive plan this week thanks to the joint history in Green Bay. Here’s hoping they can make it count.
