“An Ohio State source said he is definitely concerned about Manning giving the Buckeyes fits with that skill set,” noted The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman this week.
“His legs will kill you if you let him out,” said the Ohio State source to Feldman.
Manning isn’t a player who is going to beat you with a bunch of designed runs. But when a play goes off schedule, he has the ability to turn a negative play into a positive for the offense.
That can obviously be tough to defend. When you start playing out of structure, it comes down to players making plays. And Manning has proved he’s more than capable of making a big play in those moments.
It could just be one or two big scrambles on third down that changes the outcome of the game. Ohio State is wise to be concerned about that aspect of Manning’s game, but they may be helpless when it comes to defending it. Because like I said, it just comes down to which player is going to make a play in that moment. I like the odds with Arch.
