It’s a little too early to speculate on where 2030 quarterback Marshall Manning, the son of Tennessee Vols legend and Hall of Famer Peyton Manning, will play in college.

Marshall hasn’t even started a high school game yet, and his recruitment hasn’t really even started. We have no idea what coach he will connect with and feel the most comfortable with in a couple of years.

But while we don’t know who Marshall will play for, we may have a good idea of who he won’t play for.

An interesting nugget in a story from On3’s Chris Low this week about Lane Kiffin noted that Ole Miss legend Archie Manning, Peyton’s father and Marshall’s grandfather, wasn’t on board with Ole Miss hiring Kiffin in 2020.

According to Low, Archie stayed away from Ole Miss during the Kiffin years.

“When (Keith) Carter made the decision to hire Kiffin back in 2020, not everybody was onboard, including Ole Miss legend Archie Manning, who stayed away from the program while Kiffin was the coach,” wrote Low.

Archie Manning loves Ole Miss. He met his wife at Ole Miss, and two of his children — Cooper and Eli — graduated from Ole Miss. There’s gotta be some strong feelings about Kiffin for that to keep him away from the program the last six years.

As for Marshall, he’ll obviously make his own decision. But I can’t imagine that he will consider playing for Kiffin if that’s how the patriarch of the family feels.

Of course, who knows where Kiffin will even be in 2030. History suggests he won’t still be at LSU. Maybe he’ll be the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Or maybe he’ll be the star of a reality TV show. Nothing would surprise me when it comes to Kiffin — except for a Manning choosing to play for him.
