Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce reminds everybody that he’s still elite with his latest NFL accolade, even if 2026 is his swan song
The Kansas City Chiefs have the best tight end of all time in Travis Kelce, and he continues to prove it.
The Kansas City Chiefs struggled in the passing game all game long. They finally leaned on the run game. New running back Kenneth Walker was dominating, and the Chiefs still held the lead.
Then, Travis Kelce happened. Before his big catch and run, the Chiefs were only able to get him one catch for six yards. As stated, the pass game was nowhere to be found. Then, Kelce did what Kelce does. He turns nothing into something when you least expect.
He takes a short pass from Patrick Mahomes 59 yards, breaking tackles and tumbling his way down the field. He actually almost scored off the catch, getting the Chiefs to a first-and-goal situation. That play changed his place in history.
Kelce leads all tight ends with 1,080 receptions for 13,002 yards and 82 touchdowns since entering the NFL in 2013. And now, Kelce has surpassed former Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders tight end Jason Witten (13,046 receiving yards) for the second-most receiving yards by a tight end in NFL history, trailing only Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez (15,127). Ironically, the top two guys on the list played for the Chiefs.
Kelce showed he can still be elite with the ball in his hands
This could be Kelce’s last season. I think we all know that. Heck, most thought last season would be his final one. But he chose one more, and luckily he did, because 2025 left a sour taste in everyone’s mouth. But that play shows he still has some juice.
Sure, he doesn’t quite have the wiggle he once did. His separation and route running have certainly taken a hit. But boy, when he gets the ball in his hands, he just showed he’s still one of the best. Kelce is officially second all-time in receiving yards from tight ends. And he may not get No. 1, but he’s already proved he’s the best tight end ever. If not, he’s top-two.
