Vols commit David Gabriel Georges did something in his last game that matters more than stats, and Tennessee fans are loving it

2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, a Tennessee Vols commit, had a huge game last Friday in Baylor’s 35-27 win over Trinity (KY).
Gabriel Georges totaled 316 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 26 carries.
It was a massive performance from the highly touted running back — Gabriel Georges essentially carried his team to the win.
A couple of weeks ago, Gabriel Georges carried the ball just nine times in Baylor’s 37-12 win over Loudoun Sports Academy.
The limited touches against Loudoun were by design as Baylor head coach Erik Kimrey is making it a point this fall to not overuse Gabriel Georges.
“They’ll limit [his touches],” said VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs last month on 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will. “Coach Kimrey does a really good job of managing reps. He had a bunch of yards last year, but he did not have a ton of carries. And when they get into games that they don’t need to use him a lot, they’ll be very cautious and very mindful of him.”
So why did Gabriel Georges get 26 carries this past week?
It’s because Baylor’s quarterback, four-star Ole Miss commit Keegan Croucher, is banged up, and Kimrey knew he needed a heavy dose of Gabriel Georges to win the game.
And Gabriel Georges was 100 percent on board.
“They needed every yard he gained,” said Hubbs on WNML’s SportsTalk on Tuesday. “For him to put up 300 yards when everybody in the house knew that he was getting the ball tells you what kind of special talent he is.
“Coach Kimrey is trying not to ride him hard every week. But they needed him on Friday night. Coach told him they needed him going in (to the game) because their quarterback is banged up. They’re a little bit limited in what they can do other than hand it off to DGG, and everybody in the house knew he was getting it. And he took full advantage of it and showed them what he is all about with 300 yards.”
The numbers are obviously impressive, but it’s Gabriel Georges’ mindset that I think is most impressive. Gabriel Georges has nothing to prove at this point, but his coach told him he was needed, and the five-star running back delivered. That tells you what kind of elite competitor Gabriel Georges is.
And it’s that competitiveness combined with his physical talent that makes Gabriel Georges such a special player.
