Vikings Injury Report: Kyler Murray takes step forward, with surprise addition ahead of Week 2
The first injury report is here for the Minnesota Vikings’ matchup with the Chicago Bears, and it’s got a couple surprises.
The Minnesota Vikings are taking on the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon, and it will be the second NFC North divisional game of the season.
It’s an interesting place that the Vikings sit in. They found a way to win their first game by a whopping 17 points, despite having a backup quarterback. Kyler Murray suffered a concussion 11 plays into the game, and it cratered the vibes. The good news for him and the Vikings is that he’s healing faster than expected.
Unfortunately for the Vikings, it wasn’t just Murray that suffered an injury. Running back Jordan Mason suffered a thumb injury and found himself placed on injured reserve. It changed the math with how the Vikings will go into Sunday’s game.
Who else made the injury report? We have five names so far.
Vikings Wednesday injury report
| Player | Injury | W/T/F | Designation |
| WR Jauan Jennings | NIR/Personal | DNP | |
| LB Blake Cashman | Wrist | Limited | |
| QB Kyler Murray | Concussion | Limited | |
| RT Brian O’Neill | Knee | Limited | |
| OLB Andrew Van Ginkel | Chest | Limited |
Observations
- Seeing Blake Cashman on the list this early in the season is a real stinker. He’s missed significant time over his first two seasons with the Vikings, and already having his name on the injury report is rough.
- Murray is getting better, which is good. However, rushing him back would be a mistake.
- Head coach Kevin O’Connell told the media on Wednesday that Jauan Jennings missed practice with a personal matter.
Bears Wednesday injury report
| Player | Injury | W/T/F | Designation |
| DT Neville Gallimore | Illness | DNP | |
| DT Grady Jarrett | NIR/Rest | DNP | |
| OT Darnell Wright | Knee | DNP | |
| RB Kyle Monangai | Hamstring | Limited | |
| DB Malik Muhammad II | Ankle | Limited | |
| EDGE Dayo Odeyingbo | Shoulder | Limited | |
| RB D’Andre Swift | Ankle/Knee | Limited | |
| OT Ozzy Trapilo | Knee | Limited | |
| S Xavier Woods | Groin | Limited |
Observations
- A lot of names on the report, but Wright being a non-participant could be a big deal. Left tackle is a liability for the Bears, but Wright holds down the right side. If he’s out, that could be a huge asset for Brian Flores.
- Swift and Monangai being limited is worth monitoring, especially after how explosive the rushing attack looked last week.
