Leavitt is listed as doubtful for LSU’s matchup against Ole Miss.
It’s a surprising development since Leavitt never left the Tigers’ win over Louisiana Tech last weekend due to injury.
There are some who believe this is nothing more than gamesmanship by LSU head coach Lane Kiffin and that Leavitt will play against Ole Miss. For now, all we can do is speculate until Saturday gets here (unless Leavitt is upgraded to questionable or probable at some point this week before the game).
The silver lining for LSU fans with Sam Leavitt’s injury
It’s obviously never ideal for your starting quarterback to be listed on the injury report as doubtful.
The good news, though, is that Leavitt’s injury isn’t related to the foot injury he dealt with last season at Arizona State.
Leavitt had Lisfranc surgery late last year — an injury that can be tough to recover from — and then an additional surgery in April to remove pins from his foot.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Leavitt is dealing with a sore throwing shoulder.
A throwing shoulder issue obviously isn’t ideal either, but it would be far worse news if this was related to the Lisfranc injury. Those injuries can linger all season and cause some real issues for a player like Leavitt who makes plays with his legs. So that part, at least, is a relief for LSU fans.
We’ll see if Leavitt ultimately takes the field on Saturday night in Oxford.
Truthfully, I’d be surprised if Leavitt isn’t on the field against Ole Miss. But again, we’ll see on Saturday night.
