LSU Tigers College Football Playoff Week 9 rooting guide: LSU knows they need to win out, but some help wouldn’t hurt either
The LSU Tigers need to go 4-0 in November to lock down a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff.
The LSU Tigers know they need to win out to reach the 12-team College Football Playoff.
LSU is one of several two-loss SEC teams that enter the final stretch of the season.
A 10-2 LSU team is almost certainly going to be included in the playoff.
The A to Z Sports’ CFP predictor (which you should definitely check out to go through all the potential scenarios) currently gives LSU a 99 percent chance of reaching the playoff if they win out. If they go 3-1 with a loss to Texas or Tennessee, the chances drop to 75 percent (the chances drop to 72 percent if they go 3-1 with a loss to Alabama).
So, LSU basically controls its own destiny if they win out (at home against Alabama and Texas and on the road against Tennessee and Arkansas). But they could still use some losses from other teams for seeding purposes. The Tigers would obviously love to host a playoff game if they make the tournament.
LSU needs some teams to lose to help the Tigers’ chances of hosting a College Football Playoff game
LSU fans need to root for these outcomes to help the Tigers’ seeding:
- Georgia to beat Florida (Georgia getting the bye and knocking out Florida would be ideal for LSU)
- Ole Miss to beat Auburn (This makes LSU’s win over Ole Miss look better, and the assumption is that LSU’s head to head win over Ole Miss would place the Tigers over the Rebels in the CFP rankings)
- Arkansas to beat Missouri (LSU plays Arkansas in the season finale, so it would make that win look better, and it gets Missouri out of the way)
- Texas to beat Mississippi State (LSU has to beat Texas to get in, so this would make that win look better for the Tigers)
- Clemson to beat Florida State (That would make LSU’s win over Clemson look better)
- Arizona to beat Texas Tech (Arizona also has one loss, but Texas Tech is ranked higher right now)
- Navy to beat Notre Dame (The Irish only have one loss)
- Syracuse to beat SMU (SMU has just one loss)
- Arizona State to beat BYU (The Cougars have just one loss)
- Minnesota to beat Indiana (The Hoosiers have just one loss)
- Oregon to beat Northwestern (I’m not sure how the committee would view Northwestern, but they have just one loss)
- Virginia to beat Wake Forest (The Demon Deacons only have one loss)
- Nevada to beat UCLA (The Bruins are still undefeated)
- North Carolina to beat Miami (The Hurricanes are undefeated and ranked No. 1)
- Ohio State to beat USC (This is one that could possibly go either way, but if USC wins out and finishes with two losses and has wins over the Buckeyes and the Hoosiers, that could be a problem for LSU)
