Cleveland Browns just made a roster move that’s going to have Shedeur Sanders smiling from ear to ear
The Browns have made a roster move late week by adding an offensive playmaker with experience alongside Shedeur Sanders.
The Cleveland Browns made a roster move Thursday that will have Shedeur Sanders smiling, and his comfort level in Cleveland level could be impacted by it.
Ahead of the Browns playing Carolina Panthers in Week 3, Cleveland just brought in one of their former players.
Cleveland has signed former Panthers wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr., a player who spent two seasons catching passes from Sanders at Colorado, according to Jordan Schultz.
The move raised some eyebrows given the Browns’ wide receiver room is much improved heading this season. Wide receiver didn’t figure to be a position where the team was looking to make additions.
Horn spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with Sanders at Colorado, where he caught 67 passes for 959 receiving yards and four touchdowns for Deion Sanders’ squad.
Jimmy Horn’s path from Carolina to Cleveland
Horn had a strong preseason with the Panthers after being a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but a muffed punt in a Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears appears to have cost him his roster spot. He recorded 11 catches for 108 yards as a rookie for Carolina in 2025.
The 5-foot-8, 174-pound receiver brings an ability to make teams pay after the catch. He profiles as a player a team would want to get in space or use as a return man, both of which could carve out a role in Cleveland, even if Horn is starting on the practice squad.
The Browns’ wide receiver group is built around rookies KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston, veteran Jerry Jeudy, and second-year wide receiver Isaiah Bond as the top four wideouts on the team. Malachi Corley also figures into the mix along with special teams contributor Tylan Wallace.
Still, this is a move worth paying attention to. Sanders remains the backup behind Deshaun Watson entering Week 2, and bringing in a receiver with built-in chemistry from their time together at Colorado could be a move in favor of not only Sanders, but learning what they can about their Week 3 opponent.
It remains to be seen how Horn fits into Cleveland’s plans long term, but the connection to Sanders makes this one an intriguing depth signing.
