The Indianapolis Colts are bracing for six-time Pro Bowler to get suspended by the NFL after he was arrested earlier in the year
The latest development for the Indianapolis Colts and one of their late offseason signings seems to point towards an extended absence.
The Indianapolis Colts‘ 2026 season hasn’t gotten off to a very strong start. In more ways than one, too.
Indianapolis got thumped by the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. The defense conceded over 40 points as the offense stumbled under the return of Daniel Jones. But even beyond that on-field performance, the Colts have been dealing with some injuries — and then there’s the Keenan Allen situation. Shortly after signing in Indianapolis this summer, Allen was arrested stemming from a drunk driving incident. And now, per a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the punishment for that conduct may keep Allen out of the lineup for a while. A suspension is reportedly looming.

“Three-game suspensions are mandated by the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, which also stipulates that suspensions could be longer if a player is intoxicated at higher levels.
Police officers on the scene when Allen was arrested Aug. 30 said they received a .224 blood-alcohol level reading from the veteran wide receiver — nearly three times the legal limit, meaning the NFL could decide to increase the three-game ban that he is already facing.”

This is clearly a black cloud on the horizon that’s not going to go away any time soon. The Colts’ wide receiver room will have him for the time being, though. Allen will have the chance to play through the legal process. As he does, he’ll need to find more of an impact than what he was able to provide in Week 1 against the Ravens. Allen finished his Colts debut with six catches for 32 yards; an average of 5.3 yards per reception. When punishment ultimately comes, the league sounds like they’re going to have the jurisdiction to hand down a sizable suspension. So all parties seem to be living on borrowed time.
