Cowboys vs. Commanders matchup gets last minute injury update that slightly complicates things for Dallas
Catch up on the inactives for the Dallas Cowboys’ home opener against the Washington Commanders.
The Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders enter Week 2 down at least one starter on defense.
As every gameday, both teams announced their inactive players list 90 minutes before kickoff. On the Commanders’ side of things, a big gametime decision to watch was defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw. Good news for them: he is ACTIVE for the game.
That is major news for the matchup, and it slightly complicates things for the Cowboys. Kinlaw was a force in Week 1 as one of the Commanders’ top run defenders. He recorded two stops and consistently showed up in the trenches. With the Cowboys playing backup left guard T.J. Bass, Kinlaw’s status was particularly important to watch.
The Commanders are down off-ball linebacker Frankie Luvu, who was ruled out Friday. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are down to starters as well, with LB DeMarvion Overshown and S Malik Hooker out for the day.

Notes on Cowboys inactive list
- There are no real surprises on the list. Overshown and Hooker were essentially ruled out earlier in the week and the Cowboys made up for it a linebacker by elevating Barron and Robinson. Rookie Jaishawn Barham is set to replace Overshown as the green dot.
- As for Hooker, P.J. Locke is expected to replace Hooker at safety on nickel looks. First-round rookie Caleb Downs is expected to play safety on base looks.
- Recently-signed running back Tyler Goodson is a healthy scratch for this one, which fits what the Cowboys did last week carrying three running backs on Sunday (Javonte Williams, Emari DeMercado, and fullback Hunter Luepke).
- With James Houston out, OLB Tyrus Wheat is set to make his season debut.
