The Cleveland Browns picked up a Week 2 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to bring them to 1-1 on the NFL season, and it was an impressive showing in what was quarterback Deshaun Watson’s second start since the 2024 Achilles injury. 

The star of the game was rookie wide receiver Denzel Boston, who caught five passes for 95 yards and a touchdown, including a 55-yard score. It was the second week in a row Boston had a long touchdown after catching a 49-yard score against the Jaguars in Week 1.

Through two games, the Browns are showing they have a revamped wide receiver room. It’s early in the season, but I believe it’s at the point where Cleveland can all but tell a veteran goodbye.

Jerry Jeudy’s production has fallen off a cliff as we expected 

Through the first two weeks, Jerry Jeudy has just two catches for 27 yards. That’s not much production for a player making $17.5 million per season on a three-year deal that will run through the 2027 season. There’s no sense in the Browns paying a player that much if he is no longer a top pass-catching threat for them.

Jeudy regressed last season when he had 602 receiving yards in 17 games, following a career year in 2024 when he posted 1,229 receiving yards and was playing at a Pro Bowl level. With the additions of Boston and KC Concepcion, the Browns’ top two wideouts are rookies. If you want to factor in the third pass catcher, it would have to be second-year tight end Harold Fannon Jr.

At this point, Jeudy is at best Cleveland’s fourth-best target on offense.

The Browns have plenty of depth to absorb a move

If the Browns were to move Jeudy, it would just mean more snaps for players like Isaiah Bond, Tylan Wallace, and potentially even Jimmy Horn Jr. if they wanted to bring him up from the practice squad. It’s only two games into the season and Jeudy’s role could expand from here, but it’s hard to see that happening. Cleveland is going to ride with its two rookies who have been impressive through the first two games.

The question is whether the Browns want to try to trade Jeudy this season or make it an offseason move following the year. The belief here is that Cleveland should probably try to trade him now while his value is at the highest. If the season continues to track the way it has through two games, he’s not going to put up much production, and his trade value is going to be down quite a bit.

Jeudy’s body language on the field hasn’t been the best through two games. He was targeted once against the Buccaneers and didn’t register a catch. When the Browns scored a late touchdown on a pass to Blake Whiteheart to take the lead, much of the team was celebrating. Jeudy was walking nonchalantly back to the sideline.

It’s clear the Browns need to trade him. We’ll see if they do by the deadline this season.
