Browns HC Todd Monken went viral with just a few words after Cleveland beat the Buccaneers
Browns fans are going to love what Todd Monken had to say after the Browns picked up their first win of the 2026 NFL season.
The Cleveland Browns showed how much a week can change things in the NFL during their Week 2 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, giving coach Todd Monken his first victory as Cleveland’s head coach.
Just a week ago, the Browns were blown out by the Jaguars in Week 1, 34-10, and that loss led to former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin poking fun at Cleveland.
“In the words of my friend JuJu Smith-Schuster,” Tomlin stated, “the Browns is the Browns.”
That comment did not sit well in Cleveland’s locker room.
Monken confirms the Browns used Tomlin’s words as motivation
Monken confirmed the team took offense to Tomlin’s remark, and they used it as extra motivation heading into Week 2. Not that NFL players doing this for a living and being paid handsomely need any additional fuel, but the Browns still used it to their advantage and came out on top against the Buccaneers, 23-19.
After the game, Monken made his stance clear on Tomlin’s comment.
“Browns are going to Browns, F*** that. The guys took that to heart.”
That quote from Monken surfaced all over social media Sunday evening, and it showed him giving the kind of attitude that Browns fans can buy into from their head coach. Browns fans are passionate, win or loss, and they remain one of the strongest fan bases in the NFL. When Monken goes to bat for the team following a win, Browns fans are going to rally behind that.
Cleveland played well, especially in the second half against the Buccaneers on Sunday, and the Browns sit at 1-1 on the season as a result. The Browns will return to Cleveland for their first home game of the season in Week 3 when they host the Carolina Panthers. It will be a chance for Cleveland to move above .500, and it will be the first home game of Monken’s career as a head coach.
