Sometimes in this sport you get a game that just meets every expectation you had from it. Ole Miss and LSU, take a bow, because Saturday’s game was incredible.

I don’t care that I got my prediction wrong. I just wanted a really good football game, and I left that one with a smile on my face, proud that Ole Miss was able to get the job done.

And we are watching an all-time great quarterback in Trinidad Chambliss. I’m willing to put him in some really uncomfortable conversations, because he may be one of the best quarterbacks I’ve ever seen from the collegiate level. He is ridiculous.

Trinidad Chambliss delivered the signature moment Ole Miss needed with everyone watching

Chambliss was already fantastic last year, and I talked about it heading into this game: if Ole Miss wanted to win this ball game, you needed a signature performance from him, one that is up there with the Georgia game. And I think this performance was right up there with that, even with LSU making a storming comeback and making this game incredibly interesting all the way to the final play.

And this Ole Miss team, if they were facing off against 2019 LSU, I’d say they got a chance just because they have Trinidad Chambliss, and Pete Golding is going to have that defense make enough plays. That’s all that matters.

Chambliss already made a Heisman-worthy statement the week before against Louisville and his stock is only going to continue to climb after Saturday’s win over LSU. He should be the early favorite through three weeks of action.

Sam Leavitt and LSU’s structural problem moving forward

Now to talk about LSU a little bit. Sam Leavitt is one of the most erratic quarterbacks you will ever see. He just doesn’t play the quarterback position as it was built for. There are pros and cons with that.

You get some incredible moments from him where he’s able to create out of structure, but there’s nothing within the structure. And that was a huge thing we talked about, that we were hoping Lane Kiffin would give him that. But it’s hard to break him, and it’s hard to get him to be controlled. You saw it time and time again in this game.

And we can talk about the outlook of these two teams and whether or not one could be a national title contender. Frankly, I don’t care. This game was a reminder of why college football is the best game on the planet, and this is why we love this sport so much. It’s awesome to see the good guys actually beat down on the bad guys.

Putting my hands up, that game was absolute cinema. Ole Miss got their revenge on Lane Kiffin in his return to Oxford, Mississippi, and Trinidad Chambliss made sure nobody will forget it.
