Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian dropped a strong statement about Neyland Stadium ahead of matchup against Tennessee
Texas will visit Neyland Stadium on Saturday for a huge game against Tennessee.
The Texas Longhorns will visit Neyland Stadium for the first time ever on Saturday for a matchup against the Tennessee Vols.
While it will be the Texas football program’s first trip to Neyland, it won’t be the first time in Neyland Stadium for Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian.
Sarkisian was on the Alabama coaching staff in 2016 for the Crimson Tide’s 49-10 win over the Vols in Knoxville (he was also at Alabama in 2020 when the Crimson Tide visited Neyland during the Covid season).
On Monday, while speaking with reporters, Sarkisian said that he thinks Neyland Stadium is the loudest in the country.
“We’re going into what I would probably consider the loudest stadium in the country in Neyland Stadium,” said Sarkisian. “I think Coach (Josh) Heupel has done a tremendous job there. What he’s done offensively, the amount of explosive plays, but they’ve evolved some offensively. This is a team that believes in running the football. They’ve got two great runners in (DeSean) Bishop and (Daune) Morris, guys who can run the football.
“They’ve got a true freshman quarterback in Faizon Brandon who’s got elite arm talent. The challenge they pose is their ability to run the ball, and then their ability to take their shots down the field, which is what they’ve been notorious for over the years — the big home run plays down the field. So you’ve got to be able to play both, and then play it against the tempo and how fast they go.”
It’s clear that neither program is taking things lightly this week, and it sounds like neither program is eager to give the other any bulletin board material.
It should be a fun one on Saturday at noon in Knoxville.
