ESPN’s Greg McElroy almost nailed his score prediction for last weekend’s Texas vs Tennessee matchup.

McElroy predicted that Texas would beat Tennessee 24-20 in a close game.

The Longhorns ended up winning 20-17, so while the former Alabama quarterback wasn’t spot on with his prediction, he was pretty dang close.

McElroy made his picks for this weekend’s biggest games on the latest edition of Always College Football and he thinks Tennessee will get back on track against Auburn on Saturday in Neyland Stadium.

“How many snaps does this game have?” said McElroy. “Nobody in the country plays faster than Auburn. … Both teams average 70-plus snaps a game. Pace is Auburn’s equalizer, but it’s also a little bit of a risk because more snaps mean more chances for a long run, but it also means maybe more snaps for Tennessee’s pass rush as well. So if this game has 150ish total offensive snaps, then this might not become a battle of execution. It might become a battle of fatigue — whichever defense gets fatigued faster will be on the losing end.

“I’m taking Tennessee to win this game 27-17. Josh Heupel is 49-5 when his team wins the sack battle, and this is the week where I think they win it. Now, Auburn will hit a couple of long runs. I think (Auburn QB) Byrum Brown will make some plays with his legs. But the best pass rush (Tennessee) going against an offense (Auburn) that has held the ball a lot is a recipe that I don’t feel really good about. I think Tennessee’s run game will find some opportunities as well. Auburn will play fast — I just think Tennessee’s pass rush will play faster.”

Tennessee and Auburn are set to kick off at 3:30 PM ET on Saturday in Knoxville.
