Browns’ defensive starter took one last jab at the Steelers that’s catching buzz following Cleveland’s third straight win
Cleveland Browns LB Quincy Williams dropped one of the best quotes you’ll hear this season after a win over the Steelers.
It’s a Victory Friday in Northeast Ohio. The Cleveland Browns knocked off the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-24 on Thursday Night Football in what was a statement win for Cleveland.
The Browns are now 3-1 and have a defense that’s playing with an edge every time it steps on the field.
Cleveland led 21-10 at halftime and then let Pittsburgh get back into it. The Browns responded with a game-winning drive late, capped off by a 56-yard field goal from kicker Andre Szmyt to send the Steelers home with a loss.
Browns defense makes Steelers work for everything
The Browns played well on both sides of the football for much of the night, but the defense was the story. Cleveland may have allowed 361 total yards, but the Steelers had to scratch and claw for all of it. Pittsburgh was held to under 100 rushing yards, and the Browns got home for five sacks while also taking the ball away from an Aaron Rodgers-led offense twice.
Rodgers completed 22-of-40 passes and had to work for everything he got through the air. The Browns’ defensive line ate the Steelers’ offensive line’s lunch all game long, and that pressure showed up in the final stat sheet.
What stands out is how the defense handled adversity. Cleveland lost defensive tackle Mason Graham to an injury early in the game, and the unit didn’t miss a beat. Big plays came from all over the field, with linebacker Carson Schwesinger, cornerback Denzel Ward, safety Grant Delpit, and defensive tackles Mike Hall Jr. and Adin Huntington all making an impact. Even rookie Emmanuel McNeil-Warren got in on the action and had himself a good game.
It’s a stingy, physical group. Despite not having Myles Garrett anymore, this defense is nasty and plays winning football.
Quincy Williams delivers an all-timer after beating Steelers
Coming out of the game, linebacker Quincy Williams dropped a quote that captures exactly how this Browns defense views itself.
“Y’all gonna have to show us you’re better than us,” Williams said. “The whole defense playing with that mindset of ‘we some dogs for real’. We all on the same page. We barking as one, biting as one.”
From there, Williams was asked about the chippiness on the field throughout the night. His answer is the type of line Browns fans are going to eat up.
“They be barking, we be biting though. They be barking, we be biting. That’s it. They be barking, we be biting.”
That quote shows the energy Cleveland’s defense brings into every game, and the competitiveness is going to give them a chance every time.
Beating a division rival on a national stage is a big deal for any team, and it’s even bigger for a Browns team that is very young to do it against the Steelers. The Browns showed they can win a close game with physicality and execution late, which is going to be key as the season goes on.
It was an impressive showing for the Browns and one they can build off of. Cleveland now gets a mini bye week before it’s back in action in Week 5 against the New York Jets.
