‘That says a lot about Josh and his staff’ – ESPN analyst has strong feelings on what Josh Heupel and Tennessee did against Auburn
The Tennessee Volunteers moved to 4-1 on the season following a 24-14 win against the Auburn Tigers last Saturday in Neyland Stadium.
Tennessee’s 24-14 win against Auburn last Saturday in Knoxville wasn’t a work of art for the Vols.
The Vols turned the ball over twice, they managed only 86 passing yards, and they had to make a quarterback change.
Not much went right for Tennessee, and yet they still left Neyland Stadium with a 10-point win.
ESPN’s Cole Cubelic, a former Auburn offensive lineman, was impressed with Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel’s ability to win an ugly game where his team faced a significant amount of adversity.
“Tennessee makes a quarterback change, turns it over twice, and is semi-one-dimensional, and they found a way to get a conference win,” said Cubelic on The Cube Show. “That says a lot about Josh and his staff and his crew. The offensive line strained. They did some things that weren’t great. They did some things that were pretty good. …. And Tennessee was stubborn with the run. They stuck with it. They stayed with it.”
The passing game was non-existent, so Heupel did what needed to be done to move the ball — he fed running back DeSean Bishop (who had a career high 34 carries).
It’s as difficult as ever to get a win in the SEC. There are no gimme games in this conference — every program in the SEC is capable of taking the game down to the wire. Any win is a good win.
So….just win, baby. And that’s what Heupel and the Vols did last Saturday against Auburn.
