It’s not a fun day to be Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix.

The Broncos are 4-2 after an overtime win against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.

Denver, however, didn’t get the win because Nix played well.

Nix, in fact, didn’t play well at all. He looked hesitant to throw the ball — to the point where former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick lit him up on the Amazon Prime postgame show on Thursday night.

Former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott shares thoughts on Bo Nix

Former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott shared some thoughts on Nix on Friday during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.

McDermott, who noted that he has a lot of respect for Nix, said that something appears to be “a little off” with Nix.

He suggested that changing play-callers multiple times may be having an impact on Nix this fall.

“Do I see what is being said?” said McDermott. “I do. Listen, I remember going against Bo last season and the season before that. He’s a very competitive, edgy type of player with a certain play style. That’s how I know him, and I have a great amount of respect for him. What I’m seeing a little bit this year is some of the maybe indecisiveness. And listen, he’s kind of volleyed back and forth between two different play-callers now, so maybe that’s [the problem]. You just never know.

“He’s got game. He’s got the skills. I’ve seen him on the bench a little bit this year. He looks very relaxed, and maybe that’s just how he is. Again, I wasn’t in this seat that I’m in currently this year. I wasn’t in this seat last year. I was on the other sideline where I’m not looking at Bo and how he is off the field and on the bench. But sometimes a quarterback, in particular, needs to have that demeanor on the sideline because you have to stay consistent. You’ve got to stay poised for your team. Overall, it’s whatever works as far as that goes. But there is something a little bit off this year, and I would agree from that standpoint because I know what he’s capable of doing.”

I don’t think it’s a big mystery what’s going on. I think Nix is pressing because he’s feeling the weight of Super Bowl expectations along with the pressure of trying to earn a contract extension. Mix in some uncertainty with the play-calling situation and it’s a recipe for a tough situation for any quarterback.

Nix has to find a way to play free and loose without worrying about results that haven’t happened yet. That’s the only way he’s going to find his groove and help Denver get to where they want to go this season.
