Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix is facing some heavy criticism for comments he made earlier this week.

Nix and the Broncos’ offense haven’t played their best football early this season — at least that’s what the stats say — but the Denver quarterback pushed back against that “narrative” this week.

“I think playing good and playing bad, it’s all a narrative and I think it’s honestly kind of something we make up,” said Nix on Tuesday. “I don’t necessarily think I’m playing any different than what I’m normally playing. … I’m confident in my preparation. I’m confident in my coaching, and I’m confident in our offense and the way we’re going to structure the game and call plays.”

NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt offered a strong response to Nix on Thursday morning.

“Let’s just start with a little bit of accountability and a little bit of reality,” said Brandt. “A narrative would be something like, ‘Bo Nix was carried by the Broncos’ defense over the last two plus years.’ That’s a narrative. But we need to deal with some facts here. The Broncos’ offense is worse than the Chargers, who are terrible. Fact. Bo Nix’s QBR is worse than Malik Willis. Fact. Bo Nix’s yards per game is worse than Drew Lock. Fact. Bo Nix’s completion percentage is worse than Cam Ward. Fact.

“Jaylen Waddle was brought in to be this flashy new weapon. It’s hard to find him out there. The play caller (Davis Webb) got put in timeout. A notable AFC quarterback (Drake Maye) from Bo Nix’s own draft class was playing terrible the first month of the season and now seemed to find his game again. Fact. And worst of all, if you’re Bo Nix and you’re the Broncos, that beast in red (Kansas City Chiefs) in your own division seems to have risen and is undefeated. And one of those wins was a shellacking of the Broncos, in which Bo Nix did nothing. Those are not narratives; these are the facts. And they are undisputed. So go have a game tonight (against the Seattle Seahawks), Bo. I’m rooting for you. You’re a positive figure. You’re a promising young quarterback. But the first step in solving a problem is admitting that you have one. You’re not playing like yourself. You don’t look like yourself. That’s not a narrative. These are facts. Go change them.”

Those are certainly some strong words from Brandt, but there’s also a lot of truth there.

Nix can frame it however he wants, but ultimately, the results haven’t been great. And the NFL is a results business.

But like Brandt said at the end of the clip, if Nix wants to change the narrative, he can change it with a big game against the Seahawks on Thursday night. One big game (that ends with a win) against the defending Super Bowl champs will completely change the tone of the conversation around Nix and the Broncos.
