Saints get a boost in their first practice in France despite GM Mickey Loomis dumping a cold bucket of water on another injury
The New Orleans Saints are getting ready to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL’s first game in Paris, France. They won’t have rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson at their disposal, but two other players are on track to returning.
The New Orleans Saints are getting ready to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL’s first game in Paris, France. They won’t have rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson at their disposal.
Tyson, who’s been out with a hamstring injury since August, made the trip across the Atlantic Ocean this week, giving him a chance he could make his debut in a Saints uniform. General manager Mickey Loomis confirmed he’s not part of the equation for Sunday’s game.
“He’s improving,” Loomis told reporters Wednesday morning. “He’s not going to practice this week, but he is improving, and we feel like we’re getting closer. I don’t have a specific timetable for that yet, but we’re encouraged.”
That Tyson traveled with the team only to be withheld from practicing certainly puts a damper on things for the Saints, but he was not the only injured player who made the trip with hopes of playing.
Kaden Elliss, Anferee Jennings return to practice
Linebacker Kaden Elliss, who’s missed the last three weeks with a calf injury, practiced for the first time since Week 3.
Elliss racked up 24 total tackles in his first three games back with the organization to start the season before suffering his calf injury. He signed a three-year, $33 million contract to return to New Orleans back in March.
The Saints have struggled defensively since Elliss’ injury, allowing the fifth-worst EPA/play and second-worst success rate over the last three weeks.
Elliss isn’t the only player to return to practice Wednesday. EDGE Anferee Jennings was also seen on the practice field. A knee injury has also taken him out of the last three weeks. He began the season as a key rotational piece.
While Tyson’s return and highly-anticipated debut would bring the most excitement, Elliss and Jennings being added back to the defense would be a big boost for New Orleans this week. We’ll learn what their official status is later in the week.
