The New Orleans Saints’ uphill climb just got a little steeper thanks to a troubling revelation about their quarterback
The New Orleans Saints’ tough start to 2026 is a little more complicated to navigate thanks to a new report details about Tyler Shough’s ongoing hand injury.
This isn’t the start anyone had in mind for the New Orleans Saints.
A 1-4 start, paired with a statement by ownership? Things are off to a rocky start in Year 2 with Kellen Moore. But in the Saints’ bid to climb out of this early season hole? They’ll need to do so with some lingering adversity to their most important player. Per a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, quarterback Tyler Shough’s left hand injury isn’t going away any time soon. He’s playing through two broken bones in his non-throwing hand.
Adam Schefter reports New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough is playing through two broken bones in left hand

“The Saints have not publicly confirmed the diagnosis, but the injury has forced Shough to tape together the ring and pinky fingers on his non-throwing hand.
The injury is expected to take weeks to heal, with one source estimating that the injury would last “a couple of months,” but Shough hasn’t missed any playing time. Shough is determined to play through any injury, but it has impacted how he does his job.”

When it rains, it pours, right? This is a development that shouldn’t derail Shough’s play, but it does open the door for some uncomfortable conversations around the second-year quarterback. Remember, Shough came into the league as a 25-year old rookie (and turned 27 just a few weeks ago) thanks in part to an extensive injury history in college. That injury rundown includes a broken collarbone.
This is, thankfully, not an injury that will keep Shough off the field. But it is impacting how he performs on it. And he’ll need to continue to get creative to work around the ailment with the hope that he endures no setbacks while playing through it. And, thanks to the 1-4 start, Shough’s team is in the same boat. There’s no room for setbacks for anyone involved.
