Kansas City Chiefs’ first injury report for Week 7 vs. Seattle Seahawks includes a new twist in the ongoing Josh Simmons saga

The Kansas City Chiefs have released their first injury report ahead of Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks.

After being a limited participant in practice all of last week with a back injury, Chiefs starting LT Josh Simmons is back to being a non-participant. The difference this time? Simmons is now being listed with both the back injury and a “personal” designation. You might recall the 2025 NFL season, when Simmons missed four weeks due to a personal family matter. When he returned, Simmons broke his wrist and ultimately played in just eight total games that year. It’s unclear what the “personal” designation refers to, but The Athletic’s Jesse Newell said Simmons was in the locker room ahead of practice.

Here’s a quick breakdown of each team’s Week 7 injury report. Keep in mind that clubs can add to the injury report through kickoff on Sunday. They will release game status designations on Friday, Oct. 23.

Observations

  • Rashee Rice was spotted at practice on Wednesday without a helmet. It seems he’s getting incrementally closer to returning. He could still practice this week and play on Sunday, but Kansas City might err on the side of caution.
  • Cooper McDonald was limited in his first practice back since returning from injured reserve. This is part of the normal ramp-up process.
  • Travis Kelce is listed as limited after “tweaking” his ankle in Week 6’s game against the Chargers. I expected this for the veteran, but I don’t anticipate him being at risk of missing Sunday’s game.
  • Trey Smith is back on the injury report with a hip issue. He missed time during training camp and the preseason with a hip issue, so that one bears monitoring moving forward.

Observations

  • RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) is listed as a full participant in practice for the first time since tearing his ACL last season.
  • LB Drake Thomas (ankle) missed the Seahawks’ last game with his injury and has not returned to practice. The linebacker injuries are the ones to watch most closely for the Seahawks.
