Tyree Weathersby has been one of Tennessee’s best defensive players this season, but he got banged up in the loss to South Carolina
Tennessee defensive lineman Tyree Weathersby has been an important player for the Volunteers this season.
Tennessee senior defensive lineman Tyree Weathersby is enjoying a breakout season in 2026.
Weathersby has been one of the Vols’ best defensive players this season. He currently leads the team with seven sacks.
The Georgia native also has 19 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and two fumble recoveries.
There’s some concern about Weathersby’s status, however, after he got banged up in Tennessee’s loss to South Carolina last weekend.
Weathersby left the field after he and Jordan Norman sacked Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers.
VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs was asked about Weathersby’s status on Tuesday during an appearance on WNML’s SportsTalk.
“I think he’s going to be okay,” said Hubbs. “He had that hip injury his freshman year, and I think sometimes that thing gets tweaked a little bit. And for Tyree, it probably scares him as much as it is actually an injury — because he’s talked about how he’s had a hard time getting his confidence back (because of the past hip injury).
“Now, he’s obviously got it back because he’s playing well. But I think when it gets tweaked a little bit, I think that it bothers him. He seemed to be okay on the sideline afterward, so I don’t think it’s anything long term at this point. We’ll see. I mean, obviously, that’s a guy who’s going to get a bunch of rest this week.”
The good news for Weathersby and the Vols is that Tennessee has a bye this week before facing Kentucky on November 7.
But it sounds like Weathersby avoided anything major, which is obviously great news for the Vols.
