‘Their best just isn’t good enough’ – Notre Dame legend shares his true feelings about the Tennessee Vols
The Tennessee Volunteers need to go 4-0 in November in order to reach the College Football Playoff.
You can count Notre Dame football legend Aaron Taylor among those who don’t believe Tennessee will go 4-0 in November.
The Vols need to win out to make the College Football Playoff. They have games remaining against Kentucky, Texas A&M (on the road), LSU, and Vanderbilt (on the road).
Taylor, a College Football Hall of Famer who is an analyst for CBS Sports, said this week that he thinks the Vols will be left out of the playoff.
“With their upcoming schedule with the two ranked opponents that they have coming up, it’s going to be a tough row to hoe,” said Taylor. “We know that they run the football well. They really struggle in pass protection. Their defensive line and front seven is good, but the type of inconsistency that Tennessee brings to the table, their best just isn’t good enough.”
Former Alabama running back Damien Harris, who is also an analyst with CBS Sports, shared a similar sentiment.
“They’re coming off of a loss to South Carolina, where they were exposed by LaNorris Sellers,” said Harris. “The lone impressive win is against Alabama, and how good is Alabama looking right now? They’re not looking very good, and the ceiling of this Tennessee team is what we saw in Knoxville against the Crimson Tide. I don’t think that’s enough to get it done throughout the [final] stretch of the season. I think they’re going to be left outside of the party wishing they were in.”
Opinions on college football teams are all over the place right now. Taylor and Harris may end up being right. We’ll see how things play out for the Vols over the final month of the season.
