National media agrees on where Tennessee should be ranked in the new AP Top 25 for big game against Kentucky
The Tennessee Volunteers will host the Kentucky Wildcats in a big SEC showdown next Saturday in Knoxville.
Tennessee had a bye this week, so they were among a big group of SEC teams that didn’t play football on Halloween (along with teams such as Alabama and LSU).
The Vols will return to action on Saturday when they host Kentucky in a big SEC showdown.
It’s obviously a must-win game for Tennessee as the Vols need to win out to reach the College Football Playoff.
Kentucky, meanwhile, has just one loss so far this season.
Tennessee entered the bye week ranked No. 16 in the AP Top 25 poll.
And that’s not expected to change following the action on Halloween.
On3 and CBS Sports both predict that Tennessee will remain at No. 16 in the new AP Top 25 poll when it’s released on Sunday afternoon.
“The Volunteers have two losses by a field goal this season, one to the then-No. 1 Texas Longhorns,” noted On3’s Thomas Goldkamp. “That’s not a bad resume, and the team’s place in the Top 25 is reflective of that. But Tennessee needs some signature wins down the stretch. Kentucky and LSU loom as potential opportunities to get one.”
CBS Sports and On3 both have Kentucky, which was also off this weekend, rising one spot from No. 9 to No. 8.
Tennessee and Kentucky will kick off at 6:15 PM ET on Saturday in Neyland Stadium.
The Vols will be in their “dark mode” uniforms, which they also wore against Kentucky in 2022 and 2024.
