Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel was in the house at Covenant Health Park in Knoxville on Friday night for Baylor School’s matchup against Knoxville Catholic.

Heupel, of course, was on hand to see 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, a Vols commit who is arguably the best high school player in the nation.

That wasn’t the only high school recruit, though, who Heupel was spotted talking to.

Heupel was caught on video by WATE’s Sam Rothman sharing a laugh with Baylor School freshman Marshall Manning, the son of Vols legend and Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.

Marshall, a 2030 quarterback, is in the very early stages of his recruitment (he reportedly has four offers so far: Miami, Ohio State, Purdue, and Missouri State).

The assumption is that Marshall, who has obviously been around the Tennessee program a lot with his dad, will be pursued by the Vols. But to this point, Tennessee hasn’t heavily recruited the young quarterback.

I think that’s mostly because Marshall hasn’t played much in high school yet (he’s the backup quarterback for Baylor, and he’s missed some time this season due to injury). I don’t know for sure that this is the case, but I believe Heupel is waiting until Marshall has actually played some meaningful high school football to extend an offer (that way it’s not like the Vols are offering just because he’s Peyton’s son).

We’ll see what happens over the next year or so, but at least Vols fans know that Heupel is having some conversations with Marshall, and who knows what that could lead to for Tennessee.
