Alabama might be receiving a huge boost on offense weeks before the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff expected

Alabama lost one of its marquee additions in the transfer portal all the way back in the spring, and while the Crimson Tide coaching staff expected him to be out for some time, the latest practice shows something else.

The Alabama Crimson Tide may have just received a significant boost ahead of the regular season. Transfer portal wide receiver Noah Rogers was officially back at practice over the weekend, as seen in images released by the University of Alabama. That’s massive news for an Alabama receiving corps that, outside of Ryan Coleman-Williams, remains relatively inexperienced heading into the fall.

Why Noah Rogers’ return matters for Alabama

The last time anyone saw Rogers on the field, he was getting injured. The big-time transfer portal addition went down during A-Day, and Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer told the media it was more likely than not that Rogers would miss time to start the regular season.

While there’s no confirmation yet that Rogers will be available for Week 1 against ECU on Sept. 5, the fact that he’s back on the practice field with the regular season less than two weeks away is a promising sign. The initial expectation was that he could miss multiple games. To see him practicing already changes the calculus for a Crimson Tide offense that has its starting QB in place.

Alabama’s wide receiver room needs Rogers’ veteran presence

The truth is, Alabama has plenty of names to like at wide receiver. Cederian Morgan, Lotzier Brooks, Derek Meadows, and Ryan Coleman-Williams give the Crimson Tide options. But a lot of those guys outside of RCW are unproven at this level. That’s not the case with Rogers.

He’s a player who was productive in the ACC, knows what it takes to prepare and perform at the Power Four level, and brings a veteran presence that Alabama’s young receivers simply can’t replicate yet. The Crimson Tide went into the portal, plucked him, brought him to Tuscaloosa, and had high hopes for what he could bring to this offense.

If Rogers is healthy, he could carve out a significant role in Alabama’s passing attack this season. Getting him back on the practice field this early is exactly the kind of news the Crimson Tide needed with the opener at Bryant-Denny Stadium right around the corner.
