The Alabama Crimson Tide takes on the LSU Tigers this week in what has gone from a marquee game, to a trap game. Alabama will be on high alert to avoid the upset and keep the good times rolling, thanks in large part to the play of quarterback Ty Simpson.

Well, in preparation for his game this week, Simpson was asked what quarterbacks he models his game after.

His answer just so happened to include arguably the best QB in the history of the LSU program.

Ty Simpson models his game after Joe Burrow, among others

“I really like Joe Burrow,” said Simpson via Bama Central. “One, coach’s son, didn’t play a whole lot early, like I did, and just kind of the way he moves and plays. I really like how he does it. I think Jared Goff is one who I really like, just under center, a lot of stuff that the Lions do are stuff that we do.”

“And I think honestly, like, Baker Mayfield, little guy who will do anything to win. He’s tough and maybe is not the biggest guy, but he’s going to get it done any type of way, very resilient. Those are my three, and then you can throw Matt Stafford in there as well, but I really like the way those guys play because I see a lot of myself in them.”

I think it’s pretty rare that you see players nail their own comps. But if you said that Ty Simpson was a mix of Jared Goff, Joe Burrow, and Baker Mayfield, I wouldn’t push back on that at all. He has the poise and precision of Goff when throwing over the middle, the athleticism and maneuverability of Burrow, and the moxy and competitiveness of Baker Mayfield.

All of them are great in their own right, but Burrow obviously takes the cake. When healthy, he’s a bonafide MVP candidate. Simpson doesn’t have quite the size profile, but his arm is arguably better and he’s a more fluid athlete.

Either way, if you’re going to compare yourself to an LSU quarterback during game week, I would say Joe Burrow is a good place to start. Now it’s on Simpson and the rest of his Alabama teammates to finish. We’ll see if Alabama can improve its CFP chances and keep their foot on the gas after the bye week.
