The Miami Hurricanes are among the top championship contenders going into the 2026 college football season. Miami is coming off a 13-3 season that ended up one drive short of a national championship season.

Despite some notable roster losses, particularly on both sides of the line of scrimmage, Mario Cristobal reloaded his roster this offseason through the transfer portal and with some potential impact freshmen.

One of those transfer portal pickups was West Virginia wide receiver Cam Vaughn. With CJ Daniels and Keelan Marion gone, there was room for someone to take over.

As it turns out, that won’t be Vaughn. Cristobal did his weekly Monday morning appearance on the Joe Rose Show, and he noted Vaughn has been dismissed from the team.

“From another roster standpoint, Cam Vaughn has been dismissed from the team,” Cristobal said. “Wish him the best. The Canes will press on and (be) ready for our next practice.”

Vaughn is someone who came to Coral Gables this offseason with a reasonable amount of productivity in his prior stop. Last year for the Mountaineers, he totaled 35 catches for 541 yards with four touchdowns. In 2024 for Jacksonville State, he had 803 receiving yards and five scores.

Fortunately for the Hurricanes, the loss comes at a position where the program is deep. Malachi Toney is arguably the most versatile and overall talented player in the nation. Cooper Barkate racked up over 1000 receiving yards last year with his now-Miami teammate, QB Darian Mensah. South Carolina transfer Vandrevius Jacobs has big play ability (17.1 yards per catch last year). Daylyn Upshaw and Joshua Moore both have flashed potential.

Bottom line: the Hurricanes have plenty of ability at the position, and it’s not a loss that should reshape the Hurricanes’ offense going into the season.
