One of the top safeties in the 2025 recruiting class has narrowed his list to four programs. Gonzaga (Md.) defensive back Kainoa Winston cut his list down to Oregon, Penn State, Michigan, and North Carolina. The 96th-overall player in the On3 Industry Rankings board is a 4-star prospect.

Kainoa Winston Names Michigan, Penn State, and Oregon In Top-4

Winston's reveal to On3's Hayes Fawcett meant the end of the road for Ohio State, LSU, Notre Dame, and USC, among others. The Nittany Lions are predicted favorites for the 5-foot-10, 185-pounder, but there's time for teams to make their mark.

Winston's schedule in June is packed with official visits to four different programs. His first stop will be at Michigan on May 31. This will be followed by a visit to Penn State on June 7, then Oregon on June 14, and finally, North Carolina on June 21. He previously visited Oregon in March and had great things to say.

“It was a great visit,” Winston told ScoopDuck. “They showed me around all the football facilities, and they even showed me around Hayward Field, which was very cool. I went there with my father, and we both were amazed by the facilities there, and we both liked all the conversations we had with the coaches.”

However, not all is lost for Michigan and North Carolina. Winston visited Ann Arbor earlier this year and made similar positive statements about the Wolverines' coaching staff and scheme.

“I like the defense they run,” Winston said. “I see myself as a safety and nickel. I can be a gadget guy — like a plug and play type of dude. Wherever they see me fitting in, I can do that. I’m really coachable.”

Where will Winston land? We'll continue to track his official visits as the fall nears.
