Sherrone Moore shares unbelievable feat his Michigan Wolverines star accomplished amid Big Ten win over Purdue Boilermakers
Jordan Marshall continues impossible streak in win over Purdue Boilermakers in his three-touchdown performance
The Michigan Wolverines are 7-2 following their 21-16 win over the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday. It wasn’t always pretty. Bryce Underwood threw an interception and averaged barely six yards per pass attempt. Beating a 2-7 team by five points isn’t a great look. However, Sherrone Moore was ecstatic about one Michigan star following the game.
Jordan Marshall’s 185 rushing yards and three touchdowns were yet another wildly impressive performance from the second year running back as fellow RB Justice Haynes missed Saturday’s contest. While those raw yardage were amazing, that’s not nearly the most impressive aspect of Marshall’s play this season according to head coach Sherrone Moore.
Jordan Marshall explodes for over 200 total yards as his unbelievable run continues
Michigan fans are already familiar with just how phenomenal running back Jordan Marshall has been playing this season. Heading into Saturday’s win over Purdue he was coming off of back to back games with at least 110 yards rushing with about 600 yards from scrimmage generated on the season. However, it was one comment from Sherrone Moore after the game that highlighted truly just how special Marshall’s performance has been this year:
“Yeah, career game [for Jordan Marshall]. He just works his tail off. It’s not a surprise how good this guy is. He works his tail off. You see it coming every single day. Just so proud of him, and so proud of all these guys and how they played…Outstanding. 25 carries. 185 yards. Three touchdowns. Averaging 7.4 yards per carry. And he’s had a hundred and what, Dave? 124 carries [this season] and only one tackle for a loss.”
124 carries. One tackle for a loss. That should be impossible. How in the world could any running back tally 124 carries through nine games and only be tackled for a loss one time? That’s an absolutely bonkers stat from Marshall. Yet then again, when he runs as ferociously as he does (as you can see in the post below on one of his three touchdown runs Saturday), it makes a ton of sense. Marshall has just gone pure beast mode all season long, and it’s paying off as Michigan now finds themselves in prime position to push to make the College Football Playoff.
Sherrone Moore has been extremely complimentary of Jordan Marshall dating back to before his freshman year in 2024 and it’s clear why that’s the case. Marshall has become a leader in the locker room for Michigan. He’s stepped up big time in the midst of Justice Haynes’ injury issues. And now he’s looking like one of the best running backs in the country. It’s just incredible to watch.
Coach Moore unfortunately didn’t have any positive or clear injury update for running back Justice Haynes following the game Saturday, but given how well Marshall is playing the Wolverines offense should be in good hands. Bryce Underwood still needs to continue taking steps forward if the team is going to find its true potential this fall, but the ground game remains dominant thanks to Marshall.
