Last night’s game between Michigan and Western Michigan was one of the biggest robberies in college football history. I wanted to take time to break down the full slate from Saturday’s action, talk about LSU and Clemson, whatever happened with UCLA and Cal. But this Michigan game demands attention right here, right now. I have too many thoughts to sit on this one.

I always say a win is a win in college football. Find a way to win, even if it’s ugly. That’s all that matters. You find a way to win.

At the end of the day, that was not a win for Michigan. And yes, I know technically it is, but I’ve never seen anything like that where it’s just so obvious there should be triple zeros on that clock and a miracle of one second makes the difference.

JJ Buchanan deserves his flowers

Now, shout out to JJ Buchanan for making an incredible play. That needs to be talked about because everyone is focused on the robbery that happened.

Buchanan made a miracle happen on his own accord. That was a miracle. The play itself was phenomenal, and it’s getting buried under the controversy of the clock. Give the man credit where it’s due.

Oklahoma is going to walk into the Big House with all the momentum in Week 2

I was already excited to watch Oklahoma and Michigan next week because the matchup is genuinely compelling on paper. Now? The football gods have handed this game a storyline you couldn’t script. Oklahoma is walking into the Big House, and everyone is going to be picking the Sooners because of what they just watched.

Here’s the thing, though. It’s going to be another competitive, ugly, low-scoring game. Both of these defenses I think are going to do just fine because Oklahoma can’t run the football. I don’t even think they’ll be able to run the ball against Michigan the way Western Michigan did.

And that’s where this gets wild, because Western Michigan almost pulled off an App State 2.0. Maybe 3.0 if you want to lump in the Texas A&M one from a few years back.

Bryce Underwood is a problem Michigan can’t ignore

We’re already hearing quotes about the play being reviewed, and frankly, this was highway robbery. Michigan did not deserve that game. And I deserve to get clowned for any of the hype that I had with Bryce Underwood. He does not look that much better than what we saw from year one. That was terrible and egregious.

A 5-star quarterback with that much hype, that much investment from the program, and this is what Michigan is getting through the first stretch of the season? I don’t know how you watch that performance and walk away feeling good about the Wolverines’ ceiling. Kyle Whittingham has a real problem on his hands if the quarterback play doesn’t take a massive leap, and based on what we’ve seen, I’m not holding my breath.

Michigan got away with one, plain and simple. Deep down, everybody knows it. And it’s not going to get any easier next weekend.
