What’s next for the 2027 Notre Dame offensive line class following the commitment of five-star OT Oluwasemilore Olubobola

Notre Dame landed elite 2027 OT Oluwasemilore Olubobola on Tuesday. What is next for the Fighting Irish 2027 offensive line class?

Notre Dame football kicked off another strong stretch for the 2027 recruiting class on Tuesday, landing elite Jersey City (NJ) St. Peter’s Prep offensive tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola. The 6-6, 290-pound behemoth opted for the Fighting Irish over Miami and Texas A&M, among many others.

With Olubobola now in the class for head coach Marcus Freeman and offensive line coach Joe Rudolph, that 2027 group up front is nearing its conclusion. The New Jersey native joined Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic offensive tackle James Halter and Green Bay (Wisc.) Notre Dame Academy standout Richie Flanigan. That’s an impressive three-man class so far, which should fit well together.

The scary part, Notre Dame isn’t done yet.

How does the Notre Dame OL class fit?

When you look at Olubobola, he has spent some time at right tackle during his college career, although the majority of his reps have come on the blind side. In theory, you would love his combination of length and movement skills at left tackle, but the difference in importance between the two spots has become less so over the years. Olubobola would be an asset anywhere.

With Olubobola now in the class, Halter is going to continue to go under the radar, but he shouldn’t. Halter’s tools aren’t as freaky as Olubobola’s, but he has the requisite length and foot speed to remain outside. A high school right tackle, there’s no reason to believe that Halter can’t stick at his natural position on the college level. At worst, he could become an outstanding performer inside at guard with his physicality.

Halter and Olubobola will handle the two tackle spots in this class, while Flanigan projects best inside at guard or center. Flanigan has the ability to play defensive line on the college level as well, but his future appears to be on the offensive side. At 6-3 and 265 pounds, Flanigan has a lot of room to develop physically. With his Irish bloodlines, this is betting on that upside.

That three-man group has plenty of versatility, so they should be able to play well together. It’s a really strong group, but there are still multiple big-time 2027 targets remaining on the board.

Top remaining Notre Dame targets

Here are the two remaining Notre Dame offensive line targets on the board for the 2027 class. How the Irish staff finished will determine whether this is a very good class or an elite one in the end.

OT Layton von Brandt – Middletown (Del.) Appquinimink

It feels like only a matter of time until von Brandt ends up in the Notre Dame 2027 class. Originally a Penn State commit, Florida, and offensive line coach Phil Trautwein are worth keeping a close eye on, but I still think the Irish hold a sizable lead. The 6-6.5, 275-pound offensive tackle is another top-100 overall recruit in the 2027 class, and would be a tremendous addition to an already deep room under Coach Rudolph.

IOL Albert Simien – Lake Charles (La.) Sam Houston

While this class may end with von Brandt, I expect Notre Dame to continue pushing for Simien. LSU seemingly has the inside track due to him growing up in Louisiana, but he doesn’t come from an LSU household. The 6-4, 280-pound standout is giving both the Fighting Irish and Texas A&M Aggies a real chance. Don’t count out Notre Dame just yet for another five-star talent.
