Back in the winter the Ohio State Buckeyes had a very pivotal transfer portal period where they had to do some reshaping of their roster. Ohio State lost north of 30 players to the transfer portal and ended up bringing in about half the number.

One player who was connected to Ohio State heavily early in the process was now Tennessee EDGE Chaz Coleman. Coleman ended up following Jim Knowles from Penn State to Tennessee, but things haven’t exactly gone great.

Coleman notably missed some spring practices with Tennessee and tardiness has been an issue. Now, more clarity has come about regarding the former Ohio State football transfer portal target.

Chaz Coleman is dealing with a lot at Tennessee

CBS Sports recently detailed what exactly the Tennessee pass rusher is going through now that he’s been in Knoxville for some time.

“He’s homesick and feeling the pressure as a newfound millionaire; he suffered a head injury at an unknown point during his time at Penn State that seems to have caused lingering vertigo symptoms; and then there are concerns about his tardiness and engagement level early in his Vols tenure,” the report detailed.

Tennessee paid somewhere in the ballpark of $2 million to get Coleman and high expectations come with that kind of cash. The weighing on the sophomore’s shoulders could be weighing heavily here. At the end of the day, it’s important to know these are young men in a very demanding part of their lives.

Throw in being homesick, along with the vertigo issues, it definitely sounds like Coleman has had to work through some heavy weighing things. There’s still strong optimism that the Penn State transfer will be on the field in the fall and will be able to overcome this in Knoxville.

Ohio State ended up making other defensive line addition with Alabama’s James Smith and Qua Russaw. Early returns are that it’s going to work out just fine for the Buckeyes.
