The transfer portal is a wild and fast-moving spot in college sports today. Sometimes, when players leave the portal, it works out, and sometimes, it doesn’t.

Ohio State like every other big program loses a slew of players who choose to enter the portal and the Buckeyes use the portal to make additions in replace.

One former Buckeye took to TikTok to admit that he didn’t make the right decision to leave the Buckeyes, which is something you don’t see often.

Former Ohio State DE Omari Abor admits leaving Columbus wasn’t the right move

Abor played the 2022 and 2023 seasons in Columbus after being a top-100 player and four-star recruit in the class of 2022 out of Duncanville, Texas. Abor left the program following the 2023 regular season and transferred to play with the SMU Mustangs. Abor took to TikTok to tell how he felt about that move.

After spending the 2024 season with SMU, Abor landed back in the portal where he remains. As a junior, Abor played in just two games with the Mustangs and made two tackles. Ohio State’s depth on the edge has been heavy the last few years and finding playing time has been tough.

Abor played in one game as a freshman and five games as a sophomore in Columbus. The 6-foot-3 pass rusher made two tackles in his Ohio State career.

In today’s NIL landscape, players sometimes go to other programs for a pay raise. It appears that is what may have happened with Abor, based on the post he made. Abor openly regrets that move and it goes to show that the grass isn’t always greener elsewhere.

The spring portal will open on wed day and hundreds and hundreds of college athletes will enter it. Some will find homes and some won’t, that’s just how it goes.
