A former Ohio State Buckeyes running back who transferred this past winter was arrested over the weekend and now he’s been kicked off his new football team.
Central Ohio native Sam Williams-Dixon was arrested on several charges Saturday night in South Carolina. On Monday, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer announced that Williams-Dixon had been removed from the team, according to Greenville News.
Former Ohio State player without a college home after the latest development
Williams-Dixon is facing a total of seven charges following his arrest over the weekend. The former Pickerington North standout was booked into a Richland Co. Jail on three counts of breaking into a motor vehicle, three counts of criminal conspiracy, and one count of grand larceny.
The now former Gamecock was released on June 14 on a $150,000 bond from Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. South Carolina immediately suspended Williams-Dixon from the football team, and he’s now kicked from the program a short time later.
Williams-Dixon was facing an uphill climb at South Carolina as a reserve running back despite transferring away from Ohio State in search of more playing time. At Ohio State, the Ohio native recorded 10 rushes for 62 yards and a touchdown during his career. Williams-Dixon played in four games as a true freshman, then just one game during the 2025 season.
Not only does Williams-Dixon have criminal charges to work through now, but his college football career has seemingly been derailed as a result. A tough development for a two-year member of the Buckeyes.
