Recruiting intel on five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs eases worries of Ohio State losing the elite talent to Miami or Tennessee

Ohio State has an elite recruit in its 2027 recruiting class that Tennessee and Miami are trying to get. The latest around DJ Jacobs should ease the mind of Buckeye Nation.

Ohio State landed the No. 1 EDGE in the class of 2027 last December and ever since they got DJ Jacobs, there have been worries on if they’ll be able to hold onto him.

The Blessed Trinity Catholic (GA) standout is still highly sought after by schools like Miami, Tennessee, and Georgia. As a crucial part of Ohio State’s 2027 class, there have been worries about these schools being able to take him. As we all know, flips are much more doable these days with NIL playing such a large part.

Jacobs was on campus last weekend for his Ohio State official visit, and it sounds like he’s pretty firmly a Buckeye.

Latest update on DJ Jacobs sounds good for the Ohio State Buckeyes

Coming away from the official visit, Jacobs’ chances of staying in Ohio State’s class sound great. His father recently spoke with Rivals, and one quote stood out.

“He ready to be a Buckeye,” Jacobs’ father said via Rivals. “You dealing with these kids, there are so much emotion, you can’t say lock about nobody, so much can happen, but he’s happy about his decision.

“He liked the coaches, he loves the players. He liked the city. He definitely still loves Ohio State.”

It sounds a lot like Jacobs’ recent visit to Columbus reaffirmed how he feels about the city and the Ohio State football program. Buckeyes defensive line coach Larry Johnson is putting together a strong DL class with Jacobs and four-star EDGE Wyatt Smith as the two pass rushers. Ohio State is in a great spot to eventually land five-star DL Marcus Fakatou out of California as well.

Jacobs was an early commitment for the Buckeyes back in December and they’ll need to hold onto him for around a year before he can sign. Doing so would give the Buckeyes a player with the potential to be a real contributor in Year 1.

Keeping him away from a much lesser Tennessee program is going to be key because we know they’ll throw money around out of desperation. Georgia is the in-state school and Miami has both money and a solid program to sell. This one isn’t over for the Buckeyes, but it sure is sounding good.
