Potential Ohio State football QB of the future drops bold statement that leaves the door open for him to drop the Buckeyes and end up elsewhere

Brady Edmunds is committed to Ohio State, but is keeping the door open with other Big Ten schools in the mix to flip his commitment. The California native has dropped a key statement on where things stand currently with Ohio State football.

The Ohio State Buckeyes know they have Julian Sayin this year and Tavien St. Clair waiting in the shadows to be the next starting quarterback in Columbus. There are serious questions about what the position looks like after that.

Brady Edmunds is committed to the Buckeyes in the class of 2027 and Ohio State continues to look for a potential second addition. They’d like for Nebraska QB commit Trae Taylor to potentially be that guy, but there’s a lot to play out there. There’s also a world where the Buckeyes take one quarterback in this current cycle, and it’s not Edmunds.

Brady Edmunds has a lot to say about his commitment to play football at Ohio State

“UCLA for sure and Northwestern’s another one,” Edmunds told 247Sports’ Mike Roach recently on schools in the mix. “They’re kind of preaching to play early and this and that. Ultimately I don’t know where it’s going to go as of now. College football is changing day by day. Just being able to hold on to some of those (offers) until the final decision comes. But as of now it’s Ohio State.”

Edmunds then replied with an interesting answer on what would need to happen for him to move off of his commitment to Ohio State.

“As of now I don’t know, because I haven’t been shown it,” Edmunds stated via 247 Sports. “That’s the hard part about it. I’ve just been so Ohio State all my life it would be hard for another team to overturn it. But we’ll see.”

Edmunds is clearly leaving the door open to not end up in this cycle for Ohio State. A lot can change with time and the 6-foot-5 California QB has been committed to Ohio State since December of 2024. The commitment seemed solid until recent months, when Ohio State started turning up the heat on a second QB, and Edmunds started giving other schools more attention.

It’s UCLA and Northwestern currently giving Edmunds the most attention. The Bruins are close to home for him, while former Ohio State OC Chip Kelly is with Northwestern, and is familiar with the player Edmunds is.

There’s still plenty of time to go with the 2027 cycle before players have to put pen to paper. I wouldn’t be surprised if Edmunds ends up at Ohio State, and I also wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up playing elsewhere.
